It's a 'Blow Up' not a 'Blow Dry' !
So, it turns out that, in the US, when you drop into your local salon (pictured) to ask for an appointment for a 'blow dry' before your next appearance, they aren't entirely sure what a quaint European is actually requesting. If, on the other hand, I had confidently asked them for a 'blow up' (the word 'doll' popped into my mind for a fleeting second) then wide grins of perfect white teeth would have instantly appeared ... which was, of course, the case when transatlantic linguistic confusion had once again been resolved.
